How to List (Photo & Description Tips)

Good listings sell faster. Be clear, honest, and specific—especially for radio gear.

Quick checklist: clear photos, honest condition, realistic NZD price, region/city, and your callsign (for TX gear). Link to licence rules if you’re selling a transceiver or amp.

Required fields

  • Title — make/model & key feature: “Icom IC-7300 HF base · boxed”.
  • Category & Subcategory — pick the closest match (e.g., Radios → HF base).
  • Region / City — meet-up area; avoid publishing private street addresses.
  • Price (NZD) — realistic number; note if ONO / firm / swap.
  • ConditionNew / Used / Parts/Project.
  • Photos — at least three: front/rear, accessories, and any cosmetic issues.
  • Callsign (TX gear) — include yours in the listing. Buyers should provide theirs.

Callsign & licensing guidance (NZ)

  • Transceivers/amps: buyer should hold an Amateur Radio Operator Certificate and valid callsign (RSM).
  • Include your callsign in the description. If asked, be prepared to show proof (e.g., RSM search link).
  • Add a short line like: “Sale subject to NZ amateur licensing (RSM). Buyer must be licensed.”
  • See: Transceiver Licensing (RSM).

Condition grading (be honest)

  • New — unused; includes original accessories/packaging; no marks.
  • Used — fully functional; normal wear disclosed (scratches, replaced knob, etc.).
  • Parts/Project — not fully working; describe the faults clearly (e.g., “no TX”, “drifts on 10m”).

Description tips

  • Band coverage / region settings; firmware version; any mods (and why).
  • What’s included: mic, PSU, manuals, programming cable, mounting brackets, box.
  • Service history and recent tests (SWR on dummy load, output power, RX sensitivity impressions).
  • Known issues: sticky VFO, noisy fan, dim display, intermittent PTT, etc.
  • Meet-up options (public place) or shipping (method, cost, insurance).

Photo rules & tips

  • Good light, neutral background; wipe dust/fingerprints first.
  • Show: front, back, accessories, serial label, and any blemishes. Powered-on shot helps.
  • File types: JPG/PNG/WebP. Keep images under ~1.5 MB each.
  • Don’t include personal documents, addresses, or on-screen private messages in photos.

Pricing tips

  • Search similar sold listings to gauge market price (age, condition, accessories matter).
  • Round sensibly (e.g., $295 instead of $297). Note ONO if you’re open to offers.
  • Mention swaps if you’re keen (e.g., “Swap for VHF/UHF HT + cash”).

Location etiquette

  • Publish region/city only; exchange exact address privately after agreement.
  • Prefer public, daylight meet-ups; bring a friend for high-value trades.
  • If shipping, agree method/cost/insurance in writing first.

Policy reminders

NZ context: Private “not in trade” sales are often “as-is, where-is”. If you are in trade, clearly disclose in your listing.
